Drones and ISIS Combat

how many drones does ukraine have

While the United States, Russia, and other countries want to use more modern aircraft, Ukraine does not have the same resources to train its soldiers on these aircraft. Although the Ukrainians have received training in Western countries such as Germany on vehicles and aircraft, they cannot receive the same training in Ukraine on drones. The Ukrainians are used a lot to trucks and older equipment, so drones are much easier for them to use. Drones don't require pilots, making them easier for soldiers to use. Drones also have an easy to use interface, much like those found in video games.

Aerorozvidka

The Ukrainian military uses a unique approach to combating ISIS in eastern Ukraine: octocopters equipped with thermal cameras for nighttime missions. Some drones can be fitted with antitank weapons and can even light up columns. These drones are highly maneuverable, and can carry as much 11 lbs payload. Due to their small size, the drones are able to fly low over targets and drop munition.

Originally an IT enthusiast group, Aerorozvidka has become a military air reconnaissance unit. Aerorozvidka started out as a civilian drone business. Over time, however, it has evolved to a full-fledged unit that is headed by its own leader. Because of export control, the Ukrainian government prevented Russian military planes from entering the country. Aerorozvidka is dependent on crowdfunding and donations to support its operations, since many components of drones are made in the US.

Switchblade

The U.S. military supplies Ukraine with "Switchblade", armed drones that can strike Russian tanks far away. These unmanned aerial vehicles were developed by the US Air Force in response to Ukrainian requirements. John Kirby, a Pentagon spokesperson, stated that more than 120 of these machines are currently being sent to Ukraine. But there is no concrete information on how the Switchblades will be used in the conflict in Ukraine.

The Switchblade small drone can be launched easily from a tube. It is capable of traveling 40 kilometers. Unlike Bayraktar drones, the Switchblade can hit a Russian convoy from 6 miles away. These small aircraft can set up quickly in a conflict like Ukraine. The Switchblade has a much higher speed than the Bayraktar, the current U.S. allies.

Russian kamikaze drones

The US announced recently that they would be providing $800 million of military aid to Ukraine. One of those packages includes the delivery of 121 unmanned planes, known as "Phoenix Ghosts," that are designed to terrorize Russian troops. These unmanned aircraft can fly for 30 to 40 minutes over large areas and are equipped with cameras and warheads. Switchblade, which weighs in at 5.5 pounds and can be used to destroy armored vehicles or tanks, is one such drone.

These small, light aircrafts come equipped with a powerful, low flight gimbal which allows them to operate from either air, ground, or water. In an aerial conflict like this, every advantage an opponent holds over the other side is important. Russian kamikaze-equipped drones are a direct threat. This capability will be crucial to Ukraine's army, as it can break Russian sieges or attack command-and control nodes. Even though such capabilities would pose a serious risk to both sides, Ukraine could win if it can use small drones to make a difference in battle.

U.S. drones left to loiter

Russia is integrating ZALA KYB loitering weapons into its military arsenal. These drones can also use lethal loitering weapons in the same manner as bazookas. These autonomous killing machines could be a result of the use of loitering drones. But observers and pundits are worried about this. What can the U.S. government do to stop this?

According to Kirby, the U.S. government has dispatched more than 121 Switchblade loitering drones to Ukraine to help Kiev fight Russian forces. The Switchblade drone can hover in a given area for between 30 and 40 minutes. It weighs in at 5.5 pounds. It's equipped with a camera. Its purpose is to destroy the opposition forces in Ukraine.
