How To

How to Fly Drones With Beginners

A drone is a remotely-controlled aircraft that is used for aerial photography and surveillance. The technology behind drones has been around since World War II. DJI's Phantom series of quadcopters was the first to be commercially used. From beginner-friendly drones such as Parrot AR Drone 2.0 through professional-grade multirotor craft like DJI Mavic Pro, many types have been available.

There are several ways to fly a drone, including;

  1. Remote control – This technique uses a control device attached directly to your hands that allows you steer the drone around its flight path. There are two main types for controllers: Joysticks or On/Off switches, which can be used to control the drone's flight path.
  2. Manual Control- This allows you to control your drone remotely via GPS coordinates. Follow the instructions of the app to track the exact location you want the drone go.
  3. Autonomous flight - The drone takes over the piloting duties. The drone is able to fly autonomously, without the need for human intervention. For the autonomous flight to occur, the drone must have a built-in camera and sensors capable of capturing images and data.
  4. Triggered Flight – This method is very similar to manual flight. The pilot creates a route that the drone will follow until it reaches the destination. Once the programmed route is completed, the drone lands automatically and returns back to the base.
  5. Landing Gear – Some drones are equipped with landing gear, which allows them to safely land if they lose power during flight.
  6. Goggles-Some pilots use goggles to protect their eyes from debris during operations.
  7. Camera - Some drones can be equipped with cameras which enable you to capture photos from the sky.
  8. Obstacles-Some drones come with obstacle avoidance devices that keep them from hitting obstructions.
  9. Speed - Drones can reach speeds up to 40 mph.
  10. Battery Life: Most drones have a battery life of between 20 and 30 minutes depending on how many power sources you use.
  11. Range - Depending on the model, some drones can travel up to 30 miles away.
  12. Power source: Some drones will require an external power source while others can be powered by internal batteries.
  13. Weight - Some drones weigh less than 1 pound, whereas other models weigh up to 4 pounds.
  14. Size - Drones come in many sizes, from small gadgets that fit in one's hands to large craft that weigh more than 50 lbs.
  15. Price – All drones fall into a price category. These range from expensive models that cost thousands to affordable options that start at 100 dollars.
